Aegea and the Atlantic Islands, officially the Federal Republic of Aegea and the Atlantic Islands and commonly shortened to simply Aegea are a federal sovereign state located in South America between Argentina and the Falkland Islands. The country has a population of 60,583,403 people as of 2020. Its capital and largest city is Ogygia located in the island of Aegea.
It is divided into seven constituent states: Aegea, Ithaca, Arcadia, Olympia, Rhodesland, Daedala and Marathonia. Aegea is further divisible into four states and one federal district: Athena, Aresia, Poseidonia, Demetria and the Federal District of Ogygia. Ithaca on the other hand can be divided into Perseum and Heraclesia.
Trivia
- Each constituent country is named after a place in Greek mythology. The states of Aegea are named after the gods of the Greek Pantheon while Ithaca's substates get their names from the Greek mythological figures Perseus and Hercules.
- The country, like the United States, has been subject to widespread immigration from across the country since its independence in 1808, making it a salad bowl of culture, religions and ideals. Aegea and Arcadia were former British colonies, Rhodesland, Olympia and Ithaca were formerly Spanish, and the remaining islands were all former Greek colonies (although Daedala was formerly French, Rhodesland was Dutch and Ithaca German.)
- The country shares anthem tunes with the Republic of China, which it recognizes as the legitimate Chinese government.
- The Aegean Broadcasting Directorate, the Bureau of Multicultural Broadcasting and Aegean Christian Radio are the sole public TV stations in the country, although some other TV channels exist, and many cable networks have their own feeds in the country, such as Cartoon Network.
- Any kind of punishment that is used as a child discipline tactic, even grounding, is strictly not allowed. This is because punishment has been known to exacerbate undesirable behavior in children. The ban took effect in 1979 when several child abuse cases made national headlines: once, a child was forced into servitude under his parents for failing a mathematics test, and was found dead from exhaustion, having been forced to do chores without any breaks; and the other involved a girl being shoved by her parents into the path of a speeding truck in a successful murder attempt that left her with an irreparably broken skeleton and permanent brain damage which killed her.
- Despite being geographically located in South America, most of the country's native inhabitants come from the Eastern Coast of the United States. They somehow managed to migrate south in the 9th century, as they got used to the tropical climate they traveled through. The natives were of Mohawk, Lenape, Iroquois, Powhatan, Shawnee and Seminole ancestry.
- From 1966-1990, Aegea was a federal dominant-party semi-presidential constitutional republic under an authoritarian left-wing hereditary oligarchist benevolent dictatorship ruled by military leader Jonathan Emerson and his family. The country was placed under martial law from 1969 to 1976 as a result of an attempted fascist coup. His regime saw development of infrastructure and crackdown on drugs, implementation of multicultural and press freedom policies, and a partial crackdown on pornographic media. In 2010, Jonathan's son Roger took office restoring the Emerson regime.
- Tattooing is frowned upon in the islands of Ithaca, Arcadia, Rhodesland, and in the states of Demetria and Aresia and in Ogygia, as it has been known to cause skin problems and exacerbate mental health issues. Its strong connotation with criminals is also to blame. Ogygia became the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere to ban tattooing in 1999. Tattooing was also discouraged during the regime of the Emersons, with people having to hide their tattoos when in public.
- The country's Central Intelligence Directorate has been famous for its disguise techniques, which are far more unique than the CIA's. Spies have been known to wear masks made by former employees of CFX and Realflesh Masks as well as local makeup artists.
- Alan Walker is the most popular EDM producer in the country, as Aegea has the largest fanbase.
